Amazon Reportedly Making a Docuseries on FTX’s Collapse

At just about any boozed-up weekend gathering, you’re almost guaranteed to hear the retort “Life is stranger than fiction” after any strange story.

Although this little witticism is often overused, the FTX saga is one of the few times the use of the phrase would be completely accurate.

Approached By Insiders

Earlier this month, Variety reported that Hollywood execs had already taken an interest in the FTX story, seeking a spiritual successor to similar films covering the failures of traditional finance, such as The Big Short. Two weeks later, the entertainment journal received confirmation that a show covering the downfall of FTX is already in the works.

According to Jennifer Salke – the head of Amazon Studios – the FTX docuseries will be created with the help of well-known directors who have already worked with Amazon in the past.

“We are excited to be able to continue our great working relationship with David, Joe, Anthony, and the AGBO team with this fascinating event series. I can’t think of better partners to bring this multifaceted story to our global Prime Video audience.”

Fraud, Mystery, And Financial Misconduct

As reported by Variety, Amazon has contracted the Russo Brothers and David Weil to direct the film. David Weil will reportedly be in charge of writing the pilot and producing it, while the Russo brothers – best known for their work on the Marvel Universe – will produce the rest of the series.

When reached for comment, the Russo brothers commented on the complexity of the FTX case and expressed their interest in laying the details bare to the public.

“This is one of the most brazen frauds ever committed. It crosses many sectors – celebrity, politics, academia, tech, criminality, sex, drugs, and the future of modern finance. At the center of it all sits an extremely mysterious figure with complex and potentially dangerous motivations. We want to understand why.”

Currently, the show is planned as a docuseries to be aired in 8 episodes. It is allegedly based on “insider reporting” and will focus on the testimony of journalists who have been covering the implosion of FTX.

However, the exact subjects to be covered by the aforementioned reporting are still being kept a secret – as is the name of the series itself.

The preliminary paperwork is already being hashed out, and production of the series is due to commence in the spring of 2023.
